 What's certification?

Certification is a practice that appeared with the need of identifying the origin and the processing of an organic food, allowing the farmer to present a differentiated and higher valued product, establishing a trust relationship with the consumer.

It is a procedure to inspect and guide the production and the processing of food according to the norms and practices of organic production, guaranteeing to the consumer a product origin without chemical contamination, respecting the environment and the worker, and assuring to the producer a distinguished market.


 IBD Certification

IBD Certification, which is based on humanistic principles, acts throughout Brazil and South America, contributing with the recovery, conservation and preservation of the environment and with the development of work relationships, motivating the social commitment of the certified operations.

Presently, IBD certifies operations in the following areas:
Organic agriculture
Biodynamic agriculture
Beekeeping
Organic food Industry
Inputs for organic agriculture
Organic livestock


Certification procedures involve the conversion process of the property (2 to 3 years), that is accompanied by IBD technicians who regularly inspect and guide all stages of production and/or processing.

 IBD’s International accreditations

The guidelines followed by IBD Certification are monitored by three international accreditations:

. IFOAM - International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements, which grants IBD access to USA and Japan markets.
. DAR - German Circle of Accreditation, highly competent organization of accreditation for certifyers in Germany, which grants IBD access to the whole European Community market. DAR verifies if IBD appropriately complies with ISO-65 Norms, that are specific for certifyers.
. USDA - United States Department of Agriculture, that grants IBD access to the North American market.

IBD and DEMETER seals guarantee that:
. the production system is accompanied, by routine visits of specialized technicians, who control, guide and perform residual analyses to check the level of contamination of the foods;
. the area of organic planting has been decontaminated during the conversion process of the property, a process that can last up to three years;
. the food with IBD seal is, surely, free from highly soluble chemical fertilizers, chemical pesticides and GMOs;
. the approved production units are in conformity with the environmental norms of the Brazilian Forest Code, recovering bordering forests and preserving native areas and springs;
. the certified agricultural property adopts correct procedures for soil protection and conservation;
. there is a minimum distance kept between certified operation areas and conventional areas, in order to avoid pesticide contamination;
. the organic animals have organic feeding and humanitarian treatment and they don't receive allopathic medicine, antibiotics or hormones;
. the industrialized organic products have at least 95% of ingredients that are proved organic in their composition;
. the industrialized food is free from synthetic preservers and pigments, and are processed in a clean and hygienic way;
. the wild crop products explored by third parts don not violate indian reservation rights;
. the approved operations are in conformity with social norms based on international labour agreements, respecting the workers' rights and not using child labour.
